CHEFS have fired up the galley of the navy’s largest-ever warship for the first time.
A total of 26 Royal Navy chefs have successfully tested the state-of-the-art galley of new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.
They prepared lunch for more than 100 sailors – who will soon be moving on board the 65,000-tonne vessel, berthed in Rosyth, Scotland – as well as staff working on the ship.
Cooks were pushed to their limit with a menu specially-designed to put the galley through its paces.
The training allowed chefs to test the ovens, deep fat fryers, ranges and grills, while also testing the bakery and food preparation areas.
The 700 or so ship’s company of Queen Elizabeth are due to move into their new home next year, prior to sea trials.
The carrier, which features five dining areas, is expected to arrive at her new home in Portsmouth in late spring 2017.
