THE British Army is working on boosting ties with youngsters in Portsmouth.

Lieutenant Colonel Graeme Macpherson is part of the 11th Infantry Brigade which recruits from the city.

He said the army needs to do more to build understanding with young people. ‘A recent opinion poll showed support for the army is high but understanding is low,’ he said. ‘We need to make sure understanding is present in young people who have been dislocated from the army because it hasn’t been in the UK and when we have we’ve generally hidden behind our wires.’
