PORTSMOUTH’S navy base is testing its nuclear emergency siren on Monday.

The siren – a wavering tone – will start at 9.30am and last for about a minute.

The siren is tested three times a year, on the last working days in February, June and October, as part of the nuclear emergency response plan for the naval base and in accordance with Portsmouth and Gosport councils’ nuclear safety plan.
