A CHINESE businessman who failed in a £5m bid to turn HMS Invincible into a floating nightclub in the Far East has turned his sights on HMS Ark Royal instead.

Kin Bong Lam, chairman of the Birmingham-based Wing Wah restaurant empire, travelled to Portsmouth last week to view the decommissioned aircraft carrier.

His wife Dorian Chan said: ‘The plan is for an international floating school in Hong Kong or Macau. It would be a bit like a boarding school, for pupils from year seven onwards, from the age of 11.’

Seventeen parties viewed the Ark last week, including investors who want to transform the ship into a tourist site in Gibraltar. Another proposal is for the ship to be used as a heliport in London.

Bidding closes on June 13.
