CADETS had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of the Royal Navy when they visited HMS Collingwood for the day.

Nine cadets were put through their paces at the Fareham base as they handled weapons on the navy’s Close Range Training Simulator.

The cadets were tested on their aim and accuracy as they handled the general purpose machine gun in different simulated scenarios.

Cadet Jamie Armstrong said: ‘This is more involved than anything I have done before and it is so exciting, we’ve had a great chance to look at the different career paths and the options available to us before we join up.’

HMS Collingwood is home of the navy’s Maritime Warfare School.
