FOLLOWING Tuesday’s breathtaking D-Day fly-past spectacle - when thousands of people watched wartime aircraft soar across the Solent - we have compiled a slideshow of pictures from the display.

These striking images were taken by photographer Sam Towner, who was one of those watching the fly-past from the seafront at Lee-on-the-Solent.

The fly-past was the first of many commemorative events that will take place across the Portsmouth area and across the Channel to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
