MILITARY issues will be discussed as the new defence minister visits the area today.

Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage will take new defence minister, Anna Soubry, on a tour of the military and ex-military sites around Gosport.

Ms Dinenage will hold a meeting with the minister to consider how these sites can be better used. They will discuss key issues facing the area, such as the urgent need to replace the Victorian Oil fuel depot in time for the new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers.

Ms Dinenage said: ‘I hope that we can secure even more MoD support for our area.

‘Gosport’s close links with defence are essential to its heritage and a number of exciting plans are being drawn up for some of our former military sites. I am pleased to have the opportunity to discuss policies affecting serving personnel.’

Ms Dinenage will continue her campaign to end a discrepancy in payment rules which prevents service personnel claiming expenses for journeys to and from work on the Gosport ferry.
