THE Royal Navy’s newest warship HMS Dragon has left Portsmouth for a visit to the city of Liverpool this weekend.

The £1bn Type 45 destroyer came alongside in Merseyside yesterday and will be open to the public today and tomorrow.

It comes just over a week since the Type 45 destroyer formally joined the fleet at a commissioning ceremony at Portsmouth Naval Base.

The warship, which has a ship’s company of 190 sailors, is due to start sea trials and training over the coming months ahead of her leaving Portsmouth next year for her first operational deployment.
