Navy engineers help students to perfect their Lego robots

FAMILIES are being urged to sign up to re-enact Marine deployment under the command of officers.

They will be put through their paces with real training exercises inside the Royal Marines Museum under the cover of darkness, as all the lights will be turned off for the event.

Those taking part will also have the chance to see exclusive sections of the museum’s collection which are usually off limits.

The evening is part of the national Museums at Night programme which aims to explore museums heritage after opening hours in a creative way.

Gosport’s Explosion! Museum will also host events tas part of the programme of celebration.

It will hold a sleepover with trails and activities throughout the museum and sessions in its education centre.

The restaurant will stay open late and provide dinner and breakfast for the participants.

All events take place between May 13 to 15.

BBC 6 Music radio DJ Lauren Laverne has been named as ambassador for the Museums at Night programme.

She said: ‘Museums at Night is a fantastic initiative that really makes museums and galleries accessible, fun and interesting.

‘It is so important to encourage a new generation to support and embrace arts and heritage in the UK.’
