SHE is Britain’s largest warship ever built and would be able to fit more than 470 double-decker buses on her flight deck.
And now, fresh footage from Discovery Canada has revealed the staggering scale of HMS Queen Elizabeth – Britain’s newest aircraft carrier.
The goliath, which will weigh about 65,000 tonnes, is being built in Scotland alongside sister ship HMS Prince of Wales.
It is hoped HMS Queen Elizabeth will be able to accommodate up to dozens of fighter jets and hundreds of sailors.
And at 280m she is close to twice the length of the height of Portsmouth’s Emirates Spinnaker Tower, which is 170m tall.
She is expected to arrive in Portsmouth in early 2017 after completing a number of sea trials later next year.
She will be able to travel up to 500 miles per day and will provide the armed forces with four-acre military operating base.
