PEOPLE are being invited to a dinner to commemorate the Battle of the Somme.

The Hayling Island branch of the Royal British Legion is holding the event.

It starts at 7.30pm on November 18 and costs £15.

Julie Betterton-Trew, from Hayling Island branch of the Royal British Legion, said: ‘The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Faith Ponsonby and consort Michael Ponsonby will be attending to honour the memory of those who served in the Somme Battle.

‘The Mayor, will also be giving prizes to the raffle winners. We have invited some Hayling Islanders who had relatives that served at the Somme.’

All proceeds will be split between the Poppy Appeal and Hayling Island Branch Welfare.

Music from the First World War and the Music Hall Singers Lynda Styan and Fiona Harrison will entertain diners.
