A GOVERNMENT review has been launched to look into the reasons why some veterans turn to a life of crime after they leave the armed forces.

Latest figures suggest ex-servicemen and women make up around 3.5 per cent of the prison population, and around the same number of offenders of licence.

Almost all convicted veterans were men from non-commissioned ranks and 80 per cent were Army careerists.

Now a review has been launched to find out whether adequate support is given to veterans once they leave the forces.
