MORE than £1,000 has been raised for a good cause through a 1914-themed triathlon.

John Hardman, from Fareham, organised the triathlon to get people active and to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

The 68-year-old is an ex-Royal Navy Physical Training Instructor and wanted to commemorate the Great War with a charitable physical activity.

Mr Hardman swam 1914m, cycled 28km, and ran 7km, on Monday, July 28.

He was joined by an ex-WO1 Army REME man and another Royal Marine.

Two Royal Marines completed the triathlon in HMS Drake Plymouth, as did a lady in France and another in Fareham.

The event has raised more than £1,000 so far.
