HMS Daring will return home to Portsmouth tomorrow.

The first of the Royal Navy’s six Type 45 destroyers has completed her maiden six-month deployment. She will sail into Portsmouth Harbour shortly after midday.

The £1bn warship has been on patrols in the Middle East, working and training alongside allied navies in the area.

During the deployment, Daring sailed 34,642 nautical miles. She spent 139 days at sea and visited 12 countries.

Captain Guy Robinson said it was a ‘rewarding deployment’. He added: ‘Unsurprisingly, there has been a lot of interest in the ship, particularly from the other navies we have worked with.’

Able Seaman Elliot Parsons said: ‘Visiting so many different countries has been amazing. The Gulf is such a varied place and the stops have all been completely different.’
