THE navy’s new £1bn warship HMS Dauntless has visited Colombia for the first time for high-level talks between UK defence minister Andrew Murrison and his opposite number from the country.
The Type 45 called into historic Cartagena to host the first ever Anglo-Colombian defence summit.
It is the second time the warship has been used for diplomacy since she left Portsmouth on her maiden deployment in April.
In June, she visited Lagos, Nigeria, to act as a floating showcase for UK businesses.
Commanding officer, Captain Will Warrender, said: ‘Everyone thinks of a warship in its primary war-fighting role, because that’s the iconic image of what we do, but events like this help to demonstrate some of the additional roles – and attributes – that a modern and versatile warship like Dauntless can deliver.’
