THE former warship HMS Manchester left Portsmouth today for the final time.
The old Type 42 destroyer has been sold by the Ministry of Defence.
Leyal Ship Recycling was handed the contract to break up the ship along with the former HMS Liverpool.
The destroyers are making way for the new six Type 45s, which are based in Portsmouth.
Manchester took part in the Royal Navy’s Global ’86 tour where a task group flew the flag in a round-the-world cruise.
The contracts to dispose of Edinburgh, Gloucester and York are yet to be awarded.
As reported, she was due to leave on Wednesday morning but weather conditions delayed her departure to the Turkish scrapyard.
