A Jewish survivor of the Holocaust will attend Havant’s annual service of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau next week.

Walter Kammerling, 92, was 14 when Nazi Germany occupied Austria in 1938 and will speak about his experiences during The Holocaust.

The non-denominational service of commemoration, will take place on Wednesday, January 27 at Havant Cemetery, Eastern Road, from 11am and will be hosted by The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Leah Turner.

Cllr Turner said: ‘This is a very important date in our calendar and we are honoured to have Holocaust survivor Walter Kammerling attending the ceremony this year, together with many other mayors and chairmen from across Hampshire.’
