THIS WEEK IN 1984: D-Day events under attack by pacifists

DARREN Davies scooped his 18-month-old daughter into his arms and said: ‘It’s good to be back.’

The 29-year-old Chief Petty Officer from Gosport hadn’t seen little Seren since HMS Daring left Portsmouth in January.

And he was overjoyed to finally cuddle his daughter once again when the ship came home yesterday.

He said: ‘I’ve been away a long time and it feels so good to be back with my family. I’ve been waiting a long time for this.’

Cradling his daughter, he added: ‘She’s certainly got a lot bigger.’

His wife of four years, Lisa, 33, said: ‘It’s the first time he’s been away and I’ve not been able to go and see him half-way through because of Seren being so young.

‘I’ve been counting down weeks, then the days, to this moment.’
