THE flight deck on the first of the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carriers is now complete.

The last two sections were yesterday added to HMS Queen Elizabeth, which will be based in Portsmouth when complete.

The sections, which each weighed a little under 500 tonnes, were carefully inched into place at a dockyard in Rosyth using a giant crane.

The flight deck is the size of 60 tennis courts, and just a bit smaller than three football pitches. A ramp will be installed next month which will be used for fighter jet take-offs.
