CREW members from HMS Illustrious swapped the sea air in favour of sprucing up a deaf centre.
Lieutenant Ellen Harrison arranged for 13 ship’s company to help paint the Portsmouth Deaf Centre, in Arundel Street, Fratton.
It took members two days to redecorate the venue.
Ann Devaney, who is on the deaf centre committee, said: ‘We would like to give a big thanks to HMS Illustrious for doing a grand job of the centre, getting it to look much fresher and brighter again.
‘The centre is struggling for funds, but we want it to stay open.
‘We need help with funding and would like to hire the centre out.
‘It has a bar, hall with a stage and at the moment is used as a job club and social events on different days of the week.’
