LORD Paddy Ashdown will unveil a memorial to the Cockleshell Heroes in Eastney, Portsmouth.

The former intelligence officer for the UK’s security services and Liberal Democrat leader will reveal the monument in the grounds of the Royal Marines Museum.

The event on Sunday, November 4 marks the 70th anniversary of the World War Two mission which saw 10 men sink Nazi warships in French waters.

Lord Ashdown said: ‘I am delighted that the courage of the Cockleshell Heroes is, on their 70th anniversary, being very publicly recognised.’
