There has been no progress to cool the row over the future of Gibraltar following talks between David Cameron and the Spanish Prime Minister, MPs have bene told.
The Prime Minister said he had met his opposite number Mariano Rajoy for talks after this summer’s row over Gibraltar’s future.
It came after HMS Westminster, a type 23 frigate, last month set sail from Portsmouth for a training deployment in the Mediterranean, visiting Gibraltar en route.
After he had updated MPs on the G20 summit in St Petersburg, Russia, last week, Mr Cameron said he held a separate meeting to discuss Gibraltar, saying there was no need for a further meeting in Russia.
Mr Cameron said: ‘We haven’t made any progress.
‘We should continue not only to defend absolutely to the hilt Gibraltar’s right to decide its own future but also we want to see good and strong relations in the region as well.’
