A PORTSMOUTH athlete waiting for the next flight back to the UK is safe and keeping in regular touch with family and friends, say club members.

Jayne Anscombe, of City of Portsmouth Athletic Club, in Twyford Avenue, Stamshaw, was due to return on Wednesday – but couldn’t after the UK suspended flights in and out of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Club chairman Phil Budd said Jayne has been posting updates on her Facebook page and is relaxed about the situation.

Mr Budd said: ‘She has had a lot of contact with people in the training group.

‘She was due to be coming home on Wednesday.

‘She seems calm about the situation, and is looking forward to having an extra couple of days out there.

‘People are making a joke of the situation and don’t seem to be concerned about it at all.

‘There is nothing to suggest she is worried. The last we heard, she had gone to get another beer.’
