THE Ministry of Defence has denied reports that urgent plans are being created to move Britain’s nuclear submarines from the Royal Navy’s Faslane, in Glasgow.
The Scottish edition of the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Times said that the subs could be moved to a new base at Portsmouth or near Plymouth should Scotland win independence in a referendum.
But a source at the Ministry of Defence said these reports were speculation and denied being in the process of creating any such plans to move the submarines.
A spokesperson for the MoD said: ‘The UK government position is clear.
‘We are arguing the case for Scotland to remain within the Union. However, any decisions on Scotland’s future are for people in Scotland to decide.’
