THE mood inside and surrounding BAE Systems’ complex in the centre of Portsmouth changed yesterday when job losses were revealed.

Wednesday’s announcement had left many of those who worked inside angry and upset at the probable loss of their jobs.

As workers left the site following the announcement late on Wednesday morning, many made their feelings known to members of the press. Others sounded their horns as they left to go home and tell their families of their bad news.

But yesterday, the first day back at work following the news, there was a wall of silence over what had been announced the previous day.

One person who spoke to The News, who said he and other staff had been told not to speak to the media, said the site had a different feel to normal.

He said: ‘The mood in there is quite low - very low at the moment and everyone is looking at avenues to go down now.

‘We are all in shock and only just starting to realise what is going on.’

Others said they did not have anything to say.
