TWO men have qualified as navy warfare specialists.

Mark Owen, 24, and Jamie Fitzpatrick, 23, both from Gosport, completed their phase-two training at HMS Collingwood in Fareham with Victory Squadron.

Able Seaman Fitzpatrick was formerly a Fareham College student. He completed his basic training at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth before joining the warfare specialist course.

He said: ‘The highlight was passing out of HMS Raleigh, since we’ve been at Collingwood we’ve helped with a local charity event.

‘My time here has been challenging but a great experience. I’m looking forward to joining my first ship and putting my warfare skills into use.’

Able Seaman Owen, a former Bridgemary Community Sports College student, added: ‘I have enjoyed my time at Collingwood, I have made some very close friends.’

AB Owen joined the navy to follow in his father’s footsteps. He will soon join HMS St Albans, a Type 23 frigate.

AB Fitzpatrick will join HMS Diamond, a Type 45 destroyer.
