Pat became involved with poppy selling in 1969 and became branch, welfare, management board and membership secretary at the Lee-on-the-Solent branch from 1996.

Since then she has made a huge contribution to the Royal British Legion and is highly regarded by all military agencies locally and was invited to represent the charity when HRH Prince Edward visited.

She was instrumental in helping organise the Remembrance Day parades in Lee-on-the-Solent, Poppy Supporter Days, and the commemorative service for the 70th D-Day anniversary.

As well as being the poppy appeal organiser for Lee-on-the-Solent and Stubbington, she also took on the role at HMS Sultan and Portchester and has collected a staggering £300,000 after a decade of fundraising.

Pat’s dedication to bringing the community together results in her arranging quiz nights and bingo every week for members and she organises lifts for people that need transport so they can attend.

Clare Peppiatt, community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion, said: ‘We have the most amazing volunteers who work tirelessly for our Armed Forces family, whether it is raising money, campaigning, awareness or delivering our support.

‘Pat will be the first to say this is for all those volunteers she represents and we are extremely proud of Pat getting to be a finalist of all national charities.’

Pat attends events throughout the year promoting the Royal British Legion and raising money.

Away from collecting, Pat is also the county recruiting officer, the most called on case worker in Hampshire, and attends an outreach facility in Portsmouth once a month to offer advice to Armed Forces members past or present and their families on possible assistance from the Royal British Legion. She has also mentored new members of staff and introduced them to the other organisations.
