A MUSICAL extravaganza will be taking place to celebrate 90 years of the Royal British Legion.

A gala performance on June 10 is being held in Portsmouth Cathedral, St Thomas’s Street, Old Portsmouth, in honour of the legion’s 90th anniversary.

The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, Portsmouth, will be performing to celebrate the landmark birthday.

The band will be joined by concert and recording artist Emer McParland, a vocalist who has appeared on soundtracks for films including the Harry Potter series.

Roy Farmers, president of the Hampshire branch of the Royal British Legion, said: ‘We are delighted that the best military band will be honouring our anniversary concert with such a sparkling programme of musical favourites.

‘Big anniversaries like this do not come often, and it will be a long time before we get another chance to see them perform on our doorstep again.’

The Corps of Drums will open the concert with a tribute to all service people who have fought and died in conflicts over the past nine decades.

The RBL provides financial, social and emotional support for service and ex-service people and their families.

Show starts at 7.30pm, tickets cost £15 and can be bought at the cathedral’s bookshop or by calling 01794 323487.
