MAURICE Wighthouse and Margaret Platt smile with pride after being rewarded for dedicating their lives to help war veterans.

The pair received the prestigious gold badge from the Royal British Legion.

Mr Wighthouse, 87, from Havant, still hits the streets to collect money for the Poppy Appeal.

And Mrs Platt, 78, from Bedhampton, is still the treasurer at the Havant branch.

Both have clocked up 50 years of service. Branch secretary Lorraine Coles said: ‘It’s quite a big thing for them.’
