A REPLICA of the first ship to bring news of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar has set sail from Gosport.
A duplicate of HMS Pickle was en route to Dover and eventually her new home on The Humber.
The replica of the schooner, which can accommodate 13 people in four cabins, left Haslar Marina and sailed past the fleet of Royal Navy warships at Portsmouth Naval Base.
In 1805, HMS Pickle was the first ship to bring news of Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar back to the UK and also announce Nelson’s death.
The Royal Navy still celebrates Pickle Night on November 6 to commemorate her voyage.
