A SECOND World War navy battleship has been airbrushed from a poster advertising a festival that will be part of the Olympic Games.

Olympic chiefs have removed HMS Belfast, which helped to sink German warship Scharnhorst and is moored up as a museum on The River Thames, from posters of The London 2012 festival.

The poster was spotted this week at Camden Town London Underground station days before Remembrance Sunday.

Veterans will attend the annual service at the Cenotaph a short distance away this weekend.

Sir James Eberle, who served on the ship between 1944 and 1945, said: ‘Hearing this horrifies me. It is part of the country’s life and she will always remain a proud beacon of our history and future.’
