A TRAINEE submariner from Portchester has sailed through his basic naval training and is looking forward to a career at sea.

William Allan, 19, has been training at HMS Raleigh for the last 10 weeks.

His next port of call will be HMS Sultan in Gosport, where he will learn how to maintain the machinery on board submarines.

He said: ‘I joined the Royal Navy because I wanted the opportunity to work with some of the most advanced pieces of technology alongside the best force in the world, with the chance to push myself to the limit.

‘The training has been hard but rewarding, with a new challenge waiting and every corner.’
