A SOLDIER plans to tackle this year’s London Triathlon in army kit weighing 44lbs.

Corporal Anthony Callachan, from Gosport, is taking part in the event along with colleagues Ian Nicholls and Richard Holmes.

They decided to take part in an event in aid of Blind Veterans UK after they saw the impact of the charity’s work on the lives of blind ex-military personnel.

Cpl Callachan, 26, said: ‘This will be our first triathlon. We are going to do the run phase of the event in military kit and a back pack weighing 44lb.

‘We began training back in November and have been working hard, training most days. With only days left to go we are increasing the training and developing our own individual disciplines well.’
