The former warship HMS Manchester’s final departure from Portsmouth was postponed today.
Weather conditions forced the abandonment of plans for her to leave the city bound for a Turkish scrapyard.
The old Type 42 destroyer was sold by the Ministry of Defence.
Leyal Ship Recycling was handed the contract to break up the ship along with the former HMS Liverpool.
The destroyers are making way for the new six Type 45s, which are based in Portsmouth.
Manchester took part in the Royal Navy’s Global ’86 tour where a task group flew the flag in a round-the-world cruise.
The contracts to dispose of Edinburgh, Gloucester and York are yet to be awarded.
It is not yet known when Manchester will leave Portsmouth.
