NO less than 47 bags were collected as volunteers cleaned up their streets.

Members of Purbrook and Widley Area Residents’ Association spent two hours picking up litter from roads and green spaces.

Nineteen volunteers took part, continuing the work that began early last year.

So far this year, the group has filled 60 bags of rubbish. Gary Hughes, a Purbrook councillor and chairman of the association, said: ‘It was another fantastic effort.

‘PAWARA has been doing these events for some time. The amount of litter we are collecting is reducing, which demonstrates that our efforts are having an effect.’

Havant Borough Council provided bin bags, litter-pickers and gloves.
