POLICE are looking for witnesses to an accident which left a driver dead after his car left the road in the early hours of the morning.

The 28-year-old, who was from London, died after his red Ford Mondeo car left the A285 at Upwaltham, near Chichester, at 3.30am on Monday.

It careered into a field and overturned.

The road links Chichester and Petworth and the crash occurred close to its junction with Droke Lane.

It was closed to traffic until 1.45pm on Monday while the scene was investigated.

The man, who was the only casualty, died at the scene.

The coroner for West Sussex has been informed.
