Police have confirmed that a driver was arrested after being freed from a car that crashed into the front of a house after a police chase in Portsmouth today.

The front wall of the property in Meon Road was completely destroyed in the accident, which happened just after 11.30am.

Acting Sgt Neil Lancaster of Hampshire Police said that the car, reported to be involved in a burglarly in Gosport today, was spotted by police on the Eastern Road in Portsmouth.

He said a short chase ensued through back streets before the vehicle crashed.

Acting Sgt Lancaster said that the driver had been arrested on suspicion of burglary and driving offences.
