A MAN who went on a drinking binge and then got behind the wheel awoke to find he had crashed his car on the A27.

Craig Collins drank at least five pints of lager and several Jagerbombs on a night out with friends in Kent until 3.30am in June.

He then got into his car and headed for his home in Newport Road, Aldershot, but fell asleep at the wheel and crashed off the A27 westbound at Norton, near Chichester.

The 38-year-old was arrested and found to have 64 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of his breath – almost twice the legal limit.

Collins pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Worthing Magistrates’ Court and was banned from driving for 16 months, fined £250 and ordered to pay £235 costs and a £25 victim surcharge.
