Drivers have been urged to take extra care on the roads this evening after a severe weather warning for fog was issued for Hampshire.

The Met Office is forecasting thick patches of dense fog to quickly appear throughout Monday night, staying until Tuesday morning.

Forecasters said the fog is likely to thicken up quickly because of a lack of cloud.

It means visibility is likely to be less than 100 metres in many places.

Highways England has advised people to check their headlights and fog lights before setting out on journeys to make sure they are working properly, and adjust their speed to suit the conditions on the road.

The weather warning is valid from 6pm today until 9am tomorrow morning.
