TWO COUNCILS have apologised over problems with new bin collections.

East Hampshire District Council and Winchester City Council joined together in a new waste collection contract with Biffa which came into force this month.

But, as reported by The News, many bins have not been emptied for up to three weeks leading to heavy criticism of the councils.

Brian Turner, client team manager at EHDC, said: ‘We introduced the new collection rounds last week and that has thrown up some issues we are working hard to rectify.

‘While the number of calls represents a small number of households we want to resolve these initial difficulties as soon as possible.

‘We hope residents who have not had their bin collected will be patient and we apologise for the inconvenience.

‘However these difficulties should only continue for the next week or two as everyone becomes familiar with the new system.

‘In the mean time collection crews are working hard to clear the backlog as soon as they can.’

If your bin is not collected leave it out and report it at working-together.org.uk or call 0300 300 0013.
