Eclectic line-up announced for Waterlooville festival

The Waterlooville Music Festival, held at St George’s Church, has unveiled a line up showcasing a variety of eclectic acts.

Starting on June 11, the popular event includes performances from the HMS Collingwood Volunteer Band and the Gospel Road Community Band.

Chris Gadd, the press officer at the festival, was excited about the programme of music on offer and was confident that a range of music lovers would enjoy the event.

He said: ‘The aim of the festival is to provide a wide variety of different genres of music to be enjoyed by the community of Waterlooville at a great central location ­.

‘There is a mix of music throughout the week, which we hope will cater to almost every taste.’

Acts include the Hampshire Police male voice choir and a folk and ale night.

‘The first event is a concert from Havant Borough Council, which will feature the Langstone Big Band.

Also announced are local band The Octaves, who are playing on June 16.

Mr Gadd added: ‘On Friday we have the incredible Foreverley Brothers, who will play music from the fifties to the eighties.’

The festival consists of lunchtime concerts during the week including performances from local schools and an afternoon tea dance.

It concludes with its own Last Night of the Proms on Saturday, June 18.

Mike Sheffield, one of the organisers, said: ‘The reason the festival has been so successful over such a long period is because every year we bring a real mix of great music to the centre of Waterlooville.

‘The festival is supported by the community not just in their attending the concerts, but by local businesses and individuals sponsoring the week itself.’

Tickets are available from February 1 and cost £5 for the evening concerts and £8 for the Last Night of the Proms.

The lunchtime concerts begin at 12.30pm, while the evening concerts start at 7:30pm.
