A BESTSELLING teen author visited students at Portsmouth High School.

Cathy Hopkins visited girls at the school to talk about her life as a writer. Budding writers from Years 6, 7 and 8 were joined by pupils from Mayville High School.

The girls were treated to some extracts from Cathy’s latest book Superstar.

The books feature a teenage girl called Jess Hall who finds herself removed from her regular life in London to the glamorous world of the rich and famous living in a luxurious flat in Knightsbridge.

Cathy said: ‘I take inspiration from my books wherever I go. As I stand here now I am looking around and I can pick out hair colour, a personality trait or even nail colour for a character.

‘Million Dollar Mates is the series of books I have most enjoyed writing.

‘I take my writing inspiration from real life, from the people I meet and from the things that happen every day.

‘Writing is a solitary pursuit and it is nice on occasions like today when I can get out and meet people.

‘A book can totally overtake your life and your unconscious mind often keeps working when your conscious mind switches off.

‘This can make it difficult to get rest and sleep at times.

‘It is all worth it though as the whole process of writing a book and getting it published is absolutely magical.’
