PARENTS and carers are being urged to make sure they book their child’s school hot lunches.
Those making early bookings at primary schools in West Sussex can also make savings through the catering contractor Chartwells.
Parents who buy 30 meals or more per child in a single transaction for between Tuesday, September 4 and Friday, October 26, will get each meal for £2 instead of the usual £2.15.
Peter Griffiths, the councillor responsible for education and schools at the county council, said: ‘As the cost of living continues to rise, this is one way we can help parents ensure that their children can enjoy a substantial and nutritious meal while at school.
‘We place the utmost importance in encouraging healthy eating, and our school menus reflect this with dishes that include all of the food choices.
‘During recent hygiene visits, many of our school kitchens have scored highly, which means pupils and parents can also be assured that their meals are being served in a safe environment.’
