PARENTS can now check online whether their children are eligible for free school meals.

Hampshire County Council has launched a service for schools across the county to allow parents to see if their child qualifies for free meals.

More than 37,000 primary children in Hampshire now have school meals each day, including those entitled to free meals.

Hampshire County Council Catering Services provides a hot, two-course meal for £2 throughout the school year.

The meal is nutritionally balanced in accordance with the government’s nutritional standards for food in schools and provides a third of a child’s daily nutritional requirements.

The current menu includes chicken and beef roasts, vegetarian toad in the hole, quiche and macaroni cheese.

The service can also cater for children with medically proven allergies.
