A PRIMARY school has had a £20,000 bonus thanks to The Southern Co-operative.

Wickham Church of England Primary School is set to benefit from a donation of up to £20,000 from The Southern Co-operative’s Community Support Card scheme.

The charity, Friends of Wickham Primary School (FOWPS), bid for the money to fund a fitness trail in the grounds of the school.

FOWPS chairman David Tibbert said it’s a big step.

‘FOWPS believe that children in the Wickham community lack opportunities to achieve and maintain sufficiently high levels of fitness.

‘Statistics show that, compared with national figures, Wickham Church of England Primary School needs to get fitter and leaner.’

The fitness trail will be available to children during play time, PE lessons and after school clubs and activities as well as for the 1st Wickham Scout group, Wickham preschool and Merry Go Round Children’s Centre.

The money came from the Wickham Square branch.
