FUNDING of nearly £60,000 has been given to a theatre to expand its youth service.

Chichester Festival Theatre has been given the cash by the Arts Council on behalf of Horsham District Council to extend youth theatre across West Sussex.

It will enable the theatre to create a three-year programme of activities.

Plans include 10 new weekly youth theatre satellite groups for young people aged 10 to 19, including one specifically for young people with learning difficulties.

Dale Rooks, the theatre’s youth director, said: ‘This is very exciting news.

‘We greatly appreciate this positive endorsement of the project from Arts Council England and the support we’ve received from West Sussex County Council.

‘We are delighted to be working in partnership with schools across the county.’
