Children get creative with the help of The News

SCHOOLCHILDREN were challenged to get creative with old copies of The News.

Year 2 pupils at Northern Parade Junior School in North End built a series of islands using papier maché.

The task was put to them by teachers in a bid to make geography lessons more practical.

The school’s assistant headteacher, Natalie Pullen, – who is also head of Year 2 – said: ‘The results we’ve seen from the pupils so far have been fantastic. They’ve loved getting stuck in with the task – most probably because it’s a messy one. It has proved to be a practical and fun way for the children to learn too.

‘We settled on using papier maché because it’s great for making things in 3D. We couldn’t have done this without the donated papers from The News.’
