SCHOOLchildren took part in a competition to promote the awareness of recycling in Hampshire.

More than 150 youngsters from both Parkgate and Whiteley Primary schools took part in the initiative.

They were given recycled cotton bags and asked to come up with creative designs after visiting the Raymond Brown Group’s Rookery Farm Aggregate Recycling Facility in Fareham in the summer.

A 5p charge is being introduced by the government next year to help reduce the number of plastic bags people use and this project promoted the importance of recycling.

The competition entries were judged by the Raymond Brown board of directors.

Winning children received a £25 book voucher.

Both schools received vouchers.
