PORTSMOUTH Music Service has won the Olympic Inspire mark for its publication of a songbook with a sporting theme for primary schoolchildren.

Singathlon, which contains 18 original songs inspired by the London 2012 Games as well as songs about specific Olympic events, has been given the Olympic seal of approval.

Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: ‘It’s great that Portsmouth Music Service has been awarded the Inspire mark.

‘It’s another example of how in Portsmouth we’re getting involved in this great event and getting excited for the games.’

Charles Allen CBE, from the games’ organising committee (LOCOG), enjoyed a performance of two songs by a choir of Portsmouth primary pupils.

He said: ‘Both songs, The Olympic Rings and You’ve Got to Train, Train, Train were inspirational and a joy to listen to.’
