SIX composers plan to inject some musical inspiration into schools across Hampshire as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

In a project organised by Hampshire County Council’s music service, the composers will visit 14 schools including Neville Lovett in Fareham, The Petersfield School and Warblington in Havant.

They will encourage youngsters to compose and cover a range of topics from jazz to music theatre, vocal work and other performing arts linked with music.

The results of the project will be performed at schools, local venues and events in the summer of 2012.

Cllr Roy Perry, lead member for children’s services at the county council, said: ‘There is a wealth of musical talent in Hampshire’s schools which the music service already does a great deal to encourage. This is an exciting addition to that programme and will provide a fantastic opportunity for pupils in our schools to benefit from the experience and musical talent of leading composers.’
